While almost everyone goes to the summit of the East Maui Volcano inside of Haleakala National Park there is another location with incredible views. Leleiwi Overlook is just a bit before the main summit area. It’s a small parking lot and the area requires a bit of a hike depending on what sort of view you want. The huge benefit to coming here is that you will avoid all the crowds. While hundreds of people gather at the top you may find yourself alone here or at the very least with only a few others. It changes the entire experience. I waited for the perfect moment, when the sun just reached over the clouds below us, capturing the sun star and the first light hitting the volcano rim directly in front of us.
