Olmsted Point and much of the Tioga Road area is often sadly overlooked by photographers who favor the classic overlooks Yosemite Valley has to offer. It is a short hike from the road and a little scramble up some rocks to get to what, in my mind, may be the best view of Clouds Rest and Half Dome.  As the sun started to set and the sky lit up with color, Half Dome developed a beautiful red glow. This was a unique and sad time to be in Yosemite and in California in general. The amazing haze, while stunning in this image, was caused by smoke from the “Camp Fire” that produced so much devastation to the state.

Yosemite is a truly wonderful place, with a huge diversity of landscapes and rewards those who put in the effort to venture out from the popular areas.
