As I spent my time in Death Valley I was always looking for cracked mud. It’s not just enough to find this very rare sight but you need to find it free from footprints and facing an interesting direction. I found this the night before and made a note of the location for sunrise. I was able to find it in the dark and setup my camera long before sunrise. I had high hopes that as the sun rose I would be able to create something interesting. Luck was on my side and I was able to create this time-blended image of sunrise. With the early color on the clouds, to the light just hitting the top of the mountain, and the soft reflected light on the cracked mud in the foreground.
