Not many people visit Theodore Roosevelt National Park and even fewer make it all the way up to the North Unit. On this very stormy day there where almost no other people in the North Unit. It had been storming and raining all day, but it was starting to wind down. We made our way to the Cannonball Concretions. The badlands are comprised of porous sandstone, mineral rich water can seep down through the layers of sandstone and deposit the minerals in empty spaces. This can create some truly unusual rock formations and in many cases here in Theodore Roosevelt they create spheres that resemble huge cannonballs.

I made my way until this little valley and used an ND filter to allow the viewer to experience the clouds moving across the sky. The piles of rocks that have formed inside the walls of the badlands have been ejected into a pile that lays in the center of the frame.
