Trying to create amazing images in a place like the Hoh rain forest can be a huge undertaking. While no doubt one of the most stunning places in America it is very chaotic for photographers. There is so much of everything from trees, moss, fern, etc. It’s hard to find and isolate any single subject. On our second trip to Olympic we spent days walking in the various rain forests, on this day we spent a few hours exploring the trails in the forest. I saw what remained of a this red cedar tree and spent some time. I knew there was an image here, the strong subject with the soft hanging moss as a back drop. Once I found the image I waited for just enough sun to break free of the clouds to give light to the decaying tree.
